About us
25 years of full floors
and zero dead air.
Sugar & Sound started with a few friends into DJing, a pair of borrowed speakers, and a party at a family home in San Francisco. Today we are a crew of DJs, MCs and sound techs playing weddings in Napa, all-hands in Santa Clara, rallies in Oakland, farmers markets on the Peninsula and mountain receptions in Tahoe.
Our story
We got good at the hard rooms first.
School gyms, park lawns and company parties taught us what a wedding never could: how to win over a crowd that did not come for the music. That is still the standard we hold. If a room full of strangers ends up dancing, we did our job.
Every event gets a lead DJ who is on it from the first email to the last song. No bait-and-switch, no mystery sub who shows up on the day. You will know your DJ by name, and they will know your run-of-show by heart.
How we work
Fun is the product. Reliability is the reason you can trust it.
Prepared, not improvised
Every event has a written timeline, a shared song list and a load-in plan confirmed with the venue before the week of.
Two of everything
Backup laptop, backup mixer, backup mic, backup music library stored offline. A failure should be invisible to your guests.
Warm on the mic
Clear, friendly, brief. We announce your moments and then get out of the way. Nobody hires a DJ for a monologue.
Insured and above board
General liability, COIs for your venue, W-9s, contracts and invoices. The boring stuff, done right.
Licensed music, properly sourced
We buy our music. Your event is never at risk over a playlist streamed off a personal account.
One point of contact
Email us and a human replies, which usually is the same person who will be behind the decks at your event.
Where we play
Loaded in by 3pm. Anywhere from the ocean to the Sierra.
We are based in San Francisco and we tour our own backyard: the Peninsula, the East Bay, the South Bay, wine country, the coast, and up the hill to Tahoe and Reno. If your venue is new to us, we call them, we get the load-in rules, and we show up early anyway.
Tell us where it is- San Francisco & the Peninsula — hotels, lofts, rooftops, city halls, backyards in Burlingame.
- Oakland & the East Bay — warehouses, breweries, waterfront venues, school gyms.
- Santa Clara & San Jose — campus quads, convention halls, all-hands and after-parties.
- Napa, Sonoma & wine country — estate weddings and long, golden cocktail hours.
- Monterey, Carmel & Santa Cruz — coastal ceremonies and wind we plan around.
- Lake Tahoe & Reno — mountain weddings, offsites, and altitude-proof gear.
FAQ
Questions we get a lot
How many events do you play a year?
50 to 100 with tons behind us since we started. It means very few surprises, and a playbook for the ones that still happen.
Can we meet our DJ before booking?
Yes. We do a short video or phone call before you sign anything so you can hear how we talk on a mic and how we plan a night.
What gear do you use?
Industry-standard: Pioneer players and mixers, JBL and RCF speakers, Shure wireless microphones, and lighting sized to the room. If your venue has a house system, we can plug into it cleanly.
Do you take last-minute bookings?
Absolutely, when we have an available crew. It never hurts to ask, even if your event is this month. Go ahead and reach out to us
